FAQ: Lasio Keratin Tropic

February 3, 2011

Our appearance on yesterday’s Today Show turned a lot of heads– and with good reason. The Lasio Keratin Tropic treatment is set to take the beauty world by storm, and not just because it furnishes flawless results.

Our parent company, Lasio Inc., has worked for years to introduce a truly formaldehyde-free product to the keratin treatment market. It wasn’t easy, but we can say openly and honestly that the Keratin Tropic treatment contains zero formaldehyde. Not even in trace amounts. And we’ve got the lab results to prove it.

The question we hear most often is, “If it doesn’t have formaldehyde, how does it work?” There are many, many preservatives without Aldehydes in the beauty industry. Methelyne Glycol, Formaldehyde, and other Aldehydes are the easy answer to a manufacturer. It makes the product last 4-6 months– keratin treatment companies know that and use it to their advantage. But it isn’t the only way. Our ingredients are listed on the back of every bottle, and our MSDS reflects each and every ingredient we put into our products.

Because we use gentle preservatives, the Keratin Tropic will last 2-3 months instead of 4-6 months. The amount of curl or wave it removes depends on the strength of your natural curl or wave pattern. We can honestly say that it removes 100% of the frizz, like our other keratin treatments. This is a great alternative for anyone who wants to keep some body in their hair and avoid Formaldehyde fumes. Like our other treatments, Keratin Tropic is heat-activated– so even if your hair isn’t pin straight when it air-dries, all it takes is a quick once over with a blowdryer to achieve sleek, shiny locks.

Another advantage? There’s no processing time! The process takes 1.5-2 hours, and you can wash your hair immediately after you leave the salon chair if you choose. This means no more waiting 24-96 hours before washing your hair. Yoga, rain, and seaside air won’t have a shot of ruining your new investment.

The Keratin Tropic treatment is for sale to licensed cosmetologists only. If you’re interested in learning more about purchasing the Keratin Tropic treatment, call our US distribution office at 718-361-0072.

If you’re a woman who wants to shave ten years off of her face with a hot new ‘do and you’re in the New York City area, we’d love to see you at Lasio Studios, our boutique East Village salon. The Keratin Tropic treatment is yours for a flat-rate of $250 and includes a complimentary trim.

And now… back to our regularly scheduled programming!

Lasio Inc: Safety 1st

January 31, 2011

The cosmetics industry has suffered some major criticism lately. Salon clients are beginning to avoid many chemical hair services, particularly straightening and keratin treatments, because of the Brazilian Blowout crisis. The fear of formaldehyde’s dangerous effects and the media attacks have been enough to keep a lot of customers away from ALL keratin treatments – that’s why Lasio’s main focus in creating and applying our keratin treatments is safety. With Lasio, you can rest assured that you’ll be fully and completely educated about all things keratin before it goes in your hair. Here are a few things to consider before your keratin treatment.

Request a strand test. Lasio’s keratin treatments are safe, gentle conditioners, and allergic reactions are rare. However, people with very sensitive skin, certain allergies or a strong sensitivity to formaldehyde may suffer a reaction to the products. Here’s an easy solution – insist on a strand test. Have your stylist apply just a small amount of the product to a piece of hair that’s hidden away, just to make sure you aren’t sensitive to the product.

Is the salon is properly ventilated? Lasio recommends a proper ventilation system while performing any chemical service. Good ventilation protects everyone in the salon – especially the stylists, who perform these treatments every day – from potentially dangerous fumes, unpleasant odors and irritating pollutants.

Is your stylist certified to perform Lasio treatments? For optimal results, you should make completely sure that your stylist is fully educated on how to apply all of Lasio’s keratin treatments. There is a very specific process of application – check out our YouTube channel for some great instructional videos.

Which formula is right for my hair? Keratin treatments are fantastic for all hair types – keratin promotes growth, heath, shine and manageability. Everyone wants that, right?! However, you should consider what kind of result you would like to achieve from your keratin treatment. Do you want pin-straight locks, or frizz-free hair with body and waves? Your stylist can help you choose the best Lasio treatment that fits best with your hair type, lifestyle and budget!

LaCrasia NYC: Grand Central’s Gem

January 26, 2011

Okay, so my bangs aren’t looking so hot lately – I’ve been on the hunt for any fabulous hair accessories I can find. Thankfully, cool clips and pins are totally in right now. They’re perfect for disguising unfortunate-looking bangs, and they’re especially perfect for dressing up simple chignons and ponytails. For example:

So, you can imagine how completely thrilled I was this morning when I stumbled upon one of NYC’s hidden gems – LaCrasia. This mini boutique is tucked away in the Lexington Passage of Grand Central Station. LaCrasia is totally tiny, but it’s jam-packed with the most exquisite accessories I have ever seen. Their scarves, handbags and jewelry are all designed with luxurious fabrics and stunning gems.

Of course I went straight for the hair accessories – an incredible collection of diamond pins, beaded flower clips, and every headband under the sun. This was the toughest decision ever, but I finally settled on a simple silver clip that’ll add instant elegance to any messy ‘do:

Oh, by the way – LaCrasia’s past clientele includes Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Whitney Houston and Prince! The boutique also designs the gloves for just about every Broadway show in NYC. They have a great website with all sorts of awesome gloves: If you don’t go check out this shop immediately, you’re crazy!

Sundance Film Festival: Vibrant Hair Hues

January 25, 2011

Our favorite stars were rocking some seriously brilliant hair colors to promote their indie movies at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Do you like Elizabeth Bank’s bright golden blonde or Zooey Deschanel’s vibrant brunette?

Some other highlights were Emma Roberts’ blonde medium-length wavy style (Didn’t she just have a pixie cut?!), Kate Bosworth’s soft 40s-style curls, Sarah Paulson’s elegant ombre color, and Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen’s baby sister, Elizabeth Olsen! Check out more photos on InStyle. I saved the hottest hair duo for last – Zoe Saldana and Emile Hirsch, who came out to show their support for the relief efforts in Haiti at the screening of Espwa. Zoe’s hair looks so smooth and sleek, and Emile’s buzzed head is definitely my favorite man cut today (even though it’s the complete opposite of my all-time favorite, Russell Brand):
