Throwback Tresses: ’90s Nostalgia

November 22, 2010

Remember when scrunchies, butterfly clips, baby tees and platform sneakers were totally cool? Ahh, the good old ’90s… such a colorful era for style, music and of course, hair! Here are a few of the hottest hairstyle icons of my favorite decade…

Tiffany-Amber Thiessen

She played Kelly Kapowski on Saved By the Bell and Valerie Malone on Beverly Hills 90210, two of the most popular TV shows of the ’90s. Tiffany’s brunette locks always looked flawless, whether she wore the bad-girl bob or the cute Kelly Kapowski bangs:

Jennifer Aniston

We can thank Jennifer Aniston and “Friends” for one of the most popular hairstyles of the ’90s – the Rachel. This choppy, layered cut with face-framing highlights is flattering to a lot of different face shapes:

Jennifer switched up her ‘do to this sleek, straight style in the late ’90s, around the time when everyone started to flat-iron their hair:

Spice Girls

The Spice Girls were a ’90s version of the British invasion – they were everywhere! I remember it well – we played with Spice Girls dolls, ate Spice Girls lollipops and wore pink velvet platform sneakers. Spice style was all about insane hair and mismatched colors. At the time, it totally worked! I think Scary Spice is even wearing hair horns in this photo…

Mandy Moore

Mandy’s innocent smile and long blonde hair made her one of the prettiest pop stars of the ’90s. She went on to have a very successful career with a lot less drama than her fellow female singers (Britney Spears, for example…) Mandy’s changed her hair style and color countless times since her debut album, but her long blonde layers are a look I’ll always love:

Mariah Carey

In the ’90s, Mariah had those long, loose waves that are all over the runways today. Her style was glamourous, sexy and simple. With a voice like that, she didn’t need much else to get noticed…

Cindy Crawford

Everyone looked to the supermodels for style ideas in the ’90s. They were all beautiful, but Cindy Crawford’s hair was definitely the best – super shiny, voluminous and healthy. I love the tousled look from her 1997 Pepsi Super Bowl commercial:
